White Elephant Christmas Exchange

Growing up my family had ELABORATE Christmas celebrations. Every cousin got more presents than they knew what to do with, and our parents would inevitably have trouble repacking the car with all the new loot. Fast forward to present day: all of the cousins are now "adults" (I use quotations because I am not sure that I will ever really feel like an adult). While we have a few kids in our mix, for the most part, everyone is grown up and doesn't want to add a bunch of new stuff to their already crowded homes. So what is a family to do when they still want to feel "Christmasy" and exchange presents? The answer is to host a White Elephant Gift Exchange. Not only does it make your Christmas Shopping list less intimidating, but it will save you some bucks (we always do a $25.00 limit) and give you a great laugh. I am assuming all of you know the White Elephant rules, so without further ado, here are my suggestions for gifts that everyone will want to steal (stealing is the best part):

Wine and beer are inexpensive gifts and easy to pick up when you are in a pinch. You can stop at the grocery store on the way to the party. Plus it is the gift that keeps on giving and will keep everyone in the holiday spirit.

Sports Memorabilia
Most of my family members are Aggie fans so it easy for me to grab an Aggie item and be the hit of the evening. However, if you make that sports piece kitschy like an Aggie Garden Gnome or a Houston Texans Gnome, it makes it even better!

Anything Techy
We live in the digital age so tech savvy gifts are easy to find and abundant. I love the idea of this Magic Emotiball. I totally talk in #hashtag speak and never end a text without a smiley face or two dancing ladies. Other ideas: selfie stick or a crazy case

Board Game
I am personally a fan of Cards Against Humanity. Then once the gift exchange is over you can bust it out and play with your loved ones. I get pretty competitive so I might need to open the alcohol from above.

Lottery Tickets
Another easy thing to pick up if you are in a bind. The only time this one is a bummer is when the tickets get stolen from you and then the person who ends up with them wins big! Maybe make a rule to share the winnings ;)

Ugly Christmas Hat
Make a play on the "Ugly Christmas Sweater" hype and bring an "Ugly Christmas Hat". The recipient will wear it the rest of the night and into the New Year!

Does your family host a White Elephant Gift Exchange?
