Weekend Recap: Birthday Boy and Sweet Baby D

What a great weekend! Friday night got started with a low key happy hour Josh arranged for my birthday. Despite his birthday being two days away, that handsome man of mine was still trying to make mine the best. He is the sweetest. We met up with some friends at a DC landmark, Capitol Lounge, and enjoyed a few beers before heading home.

The next day we started celebrating Josh's birthday. His actual birthday was Sunday, but since I was helping throw a friend's baby shower, I wanted to dedicate Saturday to him. All he wanted to do was relax. We have been on the go NONSTOP so I was happy to oblige. We slept late, made a huge breakfast, and went grocery shopping. Later, while Josh watched football, I worked on our Christmas cards.

Walter kind of helped ;)

That night I made Josh's favorite meal: King Ranch Chicken. I always use the Homesick Texan's Fancy Shmancy recipe but he swore this was the best batch I had ever made which made me happy. Got to keep that Birthday Boy happy and well fed!

The next morning we went to Mass and then Josh dropped me off at Lanie's to help set up for the shower. My friends and I drank mimosas as we got things ready, and before we knew it, it was party time. Our friend Emily looked radiant all day. She is going to be such a wonderful Momma. I can't wait to see her and Phil in action this coming year once sweet baby girl D is born. So much love and happiness to start off 2015!

Even though Emily and I both went to A&M, I didn't officially meet her until moving to DC. I am so thankful for her friendship and feel so blessed to be a part of this new chapter in her and Phil's life. Throughout the day I kept thinking about how fortunate I am to be graced with so many wonderful female friendships, and I hope I never take that for granted.

After the shower, I got home as fast as I could do be with my birthday boy. Luckily there was plenty of football on TV to keep him happy and busy while I was gone. We grilled steaks, drank good wine and then celebrated with some champagne and pumpkin cheesecake. Being with him and Walter at our home was just what I needed too. There are times when life can be so crazy that you forget to truly appreciate all that you have. All weekend I felt so full of happiness and thankfulness for the wonderful loved ones I have, specifically and especially Joshua. I love you baby and Happy Birthday! Here's to many more birthday celebrations together!
