Weekend Recap: Gone Girl, Football, and Pumpkins

On Friday night I met Meghan and Beth for dinner at Vapiano before the movies. Our book club read "Gone Girl" two years ago and loved it. I have since read all of Gillian Flynn's books. That girl knows how to write a suspense let me tell ya. She wrote a damn great screenplay for Gone Girl because the movie was so good! Rarely, do you see a movie that even comes close to being as good as the book, but Gone Girl did it! The story line remained the same, and even though I knew what was going to happen, I screamed out loud multiple times.
Prosecco, Ceasar Salad and a loaded Calzone

We all agreed though that the movie was better because we had read the book. I think certain parts might have been a bit confusing if you didn't know the complete back story. Either way GO SEE IT. Great plot, super entertaining, and the acting was phenomenal. I was skeptical of Ben Affleck playing Nick, but he was perfect! Best role he has had since The Torkelsons.
Waiting in line to get our seats!

The next morning we had an early wake up call. An early Aggie kick-off means an early WOD. I wasn't the only one who wanted to stay snuggled up in bed.

The WOD wasn't too bad considering it was a Saturday, but my giant calzone from the night before was still sitting heavy in my stomach. All that gluten made those burpees more miserable than they already are!
Part A: 4 +1 Rx
Part B: 5 +3 Rx

At noon, we met up with our friends to watch some Fightin' Texas Aggie Football. The Aggies didn't show up to play, and we lost miserably. To look on the bright side, at least the beer was cold!

On Sunday we woke up to some beautiful weather. After church, we picked up Walter and hit the road for a trip to the pumpkin patch!

One of my favorite things about living in Alexandria DC is it's close proximity to Virginia's Wine Country. During the Fall, this area also has places where you can pick your own pumpkins and apples.

I am going to go into more details on the patch in a separate post. But, for a quick synopsis, Walter loved the patch. Mainly the part where he could roll in all the smashed pumpkins to his heart's content. One might think smashed pumpkin smells good. It doesn't, but Walter sure loved it!

After picking 100 lbs of pumpkins (you read that correctly), we stopped to sample some wine at Barrel Oak Winery. They are right by the highway and dog friendly. Walter was a hit at the winery (and everywhere), and Josh and I came home with 12 new bottles of wine. We should be set for about 6 days ;)

When we got home we bundled up by the TV for some Pho and Breaking Bad.

How was your weekend?
