Wedding Wednesday: A Brand New Smile

Although most people tell me that they never noticed, I have two significantly smaller lateral incisors. These are the two teeth on either side of your big front teeth. Since I got my braces off (which was 15 years ago when I was 13), I have wanted to get these two teeth fixed but just never bit the bullet...literally. Eventually I came to accept "my baby teeth" as I dubbed them, and they no longer bothered me....as much.

After Josh proposed and we started wedding planning, I began to think about fixing my baby tooth again. I knew we were about to take a gazillion pictures and create memories that would last a lifetime so I couldn't think of a better time to finally consult a dentist and get my teeth fixed. With much encouragement from my awesome Mommasita, I finally made an appointment for a consultation with a cosmetic dentist.

The number one thing I wanted was to not look significantly different and to have a smile that looked natural. Anyone that knows me knows that I am ALWAYS smiling. My smile makes me ME so it was important  that I still looked natural and not like a person with a mouthful of chicklets. I didn't want to scare little children. My dentist was great and really made me feel at ease with getting my teeth fixed, and after my consultation, I made the appointment to get bonding exactly a month later.

Monday was the day of my appointment (and also 11 months from when Josh and I tie the knot). I was nervous but very excited. The procedure took roughly 2 1/2 hours and throughout the process my dentist made me comfortable and confident in his work. When I finally was able to look at the finished project, I couldn't believe my eyes! He did a FANTASTIC job. Not only do my teeth look perfect, but they look like they were the teeth I was born with. They also look significantly whiter even though we didn't change the color. He had told me this would probably happen since my small teeth were always in a shadow causing them to look discolored. I could not have asked for a better job, and now I can't believe that I waited this long to get them fixed!

Regardless of how I looked, I am looking forward to Joshua and my wedding day and the memories that we are making together. And I am not preaching that you should fix every or any imperfection that you might have. Everyone has to do what is best for them. However, I am so thankful that I had the opportunity (and means) to get my teeth fixed. A smile is rarely far from my face, and I feel like now it will be permanently there at all times...even when I am sleeping.

Couldn't stop smiling!
