Weekend Recap: A DQ S'Mores Blizzard

After several busy weekend/weeks of work (AZ, Picnics, and Regionals), I was looking forward to a really chill weekend with lots of pool time. The weekend got started with some drinks and trivia at the Capitol Hill Club's "Wheels Up" Happy Hour. Later Josh and I gorged on some of my favorite pizza from Lost Dog.

The next morning I woke up early and went to CrossFit. This Saturday's Hero WOD was Daniel:

On June 8th 2006, Sgt. 1st Class Daniel B. Crabtree was critically injured in his armored Humvee when an improvised explosive device struck the vehicle near Al Kut, in east-central Iraq. He was evacuated by air after the attack and died en route to a combat support hospital in Baghdad. He was 31. Crabtree is survived by his wife, Kathy, and his daughter, Mallory, of the City of Green. He is also survived by his father, Ronald Crabtree and his mother, Judy Ann Crabtree.

I was able to kip the pullups for the first 12 and then had to use some bands, but I was happy about getting a few on my own. I did the thrusters with Rx weight and finished in 26:40.
This picture isn't from Saturday, but I thought it was pretty funny. I was showing off my new shirt from regionals and my  "guns".

Later, my sweet friends picked me up and we headed to the public pool for some sun and girl time! It was a gorgeous day with very little humidity for DC in June. We visited, splashed in the water, and drank some smuggled in Beeritas. At around 3:30pm we were STARVING. Originally we planned to have pizza and slushies at a new restaurant in Glover, but it turned out to not be open for lunch. So we settled on a late brunch at Bourbon.

Josh purchased a new smoker on Saturday, and that evening we officially broke it in with a few ribeyes. During dinner (and for most of this past week), I couldn't stop talking about the Dairy Queen S'Mores Blizzard. I had to try it! So immediately after our healthy (and paleo) meal of meat and veggies, I went and induldged my craving with my non-paleo treat. Per suggestion from some friends, I got extra toppings and it was a wise decision. The blizzard was reallllllly yummy, but I still like my go to Butterfinger option best!
Steak, Excited to try the Blizzard, and Success!!! I finally had it! Also please excuse the nail polish that is still on my thumb from over a month and half ago...oy.

Sunday was spent being a total bum, and I enjoyed every second. I read my book, went to the pool, watched some Law and Order and the US Open. Later that evening we made some pork tacos, and then Josh and I watched the season premiere of True Blood (so good...this season is going to be great) and Mad Men.

How was your weekend?

What is your favorite Blizzard Flavor?

Do you watch True Blood?

Finally, I want to wish my Daddy a Happy Father's Day!!! I love you Daddy! Thank you for all that you do for me, and I am excited to see you in a few weeks :)

  1. If I liked Smores more than I do, I'd be SO excited to get a Smores Blizzard, but I'm just not a huge Smores fan. However I am hearing EXCELLENT things about the blizzard, so maybe I'll get a mini and try it. Oreo (with extra oreo) is my go to/favorite flavor. I tried the Girl Scout Thin Mints flavor a few years ago (at camp actually- haha) and was very disappointed.
