Weekend Recap: Softly Call The Muster...

Josh went to a Bachelor Party this weekend so I was a single lady. Now what does a single lady want to do when her man is out of town? Drink wine and catch up on Nashville of course!!!

On Friday night, I got home and promptly poured myself a glass of wine and served myself a heaping bowl of mac-n-cheese. We were having some monsoon weather, and I was happy as a clam to be cozy on the couch watching my favorite TV show, Nashville.

I am obsessed with that show. Do you watch? If not...you should! And spoiler alert...but does anyone else want Gunnar and Scarlett back together as a musical act? I do...I am not sure how I feel about her going solo...oh wait! Yes I do...ME NO LIKEY.

The highlight of my evening was seeing this on the news:
I am so thankful that justice will be served for all of those who lost loved ones and were injured in the Boston  tragedy.
The next morning, I woke up early and headed straight to CrossFit. The WOD was the "Lumberjack 20" and it was brutal. More on that on Thursday!

After CF, I went to the grocery store and target to stock up on healthy snacks and food. By the time I got home I was STARVING. I whipped up some Chocolate Pancakes (not paleo) and feasted on them with a side of bacon. After my lunch, I walked over to Eastern Market to browse. It was a gorgeous day, and lots of people were out and about. On the way home, I stopped by my neighborhood library and picked Mindy Kaling's book. I read the first few pages in the library and was already laughing out loud. Lately, I have had an inkling to reread the Sweet Valley Twins series. I know. I know. I am a bit old for them, but they are a classic. However, I was devastated to find out that the library DOES NOT HAVE THEM. What!!!!
Yummy Pancakes, Pretty Tulips, Bustling Market, and Books...I happened to be in the self help section without knowing  it when I took this book pic :)
I went back home, read a bit more of my Unbroken book, and then started cleaning out my closet. I was in a "get rid of everything" mood. It felt so good to purge myself of clothes that no longer really fit or things from circa 1999.
Cleaning out my closet and saying goodbye to my last piece of Abercrombie clothing. I used to work there so I had a lot, and this has always been one of my favorite jackets...but it is time to let it go.

Along with new clothes, I have been ready for some new recipes lately so I tried a new dish that night...Chicken Piccata. It was INCREDIBLE. I will be sharing the recipe shortly.
Paleo......ISH

On Sunday, I woke up early, went to church, and then met one of my dear friends and her husband for brunch. Lauren and I met at Camp Mystic, and she helped me get over my homesickness during my first year. I love her so much, and enjoyed catching up with her and her handsome hubby!

Later that afternoon, I went and took some of clothes to a resale boutique and then got ready for Aggie Muster. I written about Muster here, but for a quick overview Muster is one of Texas A&M's most cherished traditions. Every April 21st, Aggies all over the world get together to remember our fellow Aggies who have passed away in the previous year. The largest ceremony is held on the Texas A&M campus, but the DC ceremony is quite large as well. There were well over 300 people in attendance this year, and the guest speaker did a fantastic job. Andy Card worked in both Bush administrations and is currently the Dean of the Bush School in College Station.

Roll Call of the Fallen is taken during the ceremony. Comrades answer here and then light a candle in honor of the Aggie who has passed on. Here in DC people are able to find friends, family and classmates to recognize, but at the ceremony on campus EVERY SINGLE AGGIE who passed on in the previous year is represented by a loved one. It is a truly moving service and an incredible tradition.
Answering HERE for Mr. N Cunningham '58 . So proud to be a part of such an amazing family. My ring is a daily visual reminder of how lucky I am!

After Muster, I was reunited with my handsome man, and we watched Game of Thrones and ate some Chicken Piccata leftovers. It was a fantastic weekend!

How was your weekend?

Do you watch Nashville?

What is your favorite school/family tradition?
