CrossFit Open: 13.4 Recap

As I mentioned in my Easter post, both Josh and I attempted 13.4 this past weekend. 13.4 was tough and consisted of:

7 Minute AMRAP (The weight below is women's. Men's was 135 pounds)

Complete as many reps as possible in 7 minutes following the rep scheme below:

95 pound Clean and jerk, 3 reps
3 Toes-to-bar
95 pound Clean and jerk, 6 reps
6 Toes-to-bar
95 pound Clean and jerk, 9 reps
9 Toes-to-bar
95 pound Clean and jerk, 12 reps
12 Toes-to-bar
95 pound Clean and jerk, 15 reps
15 Toes-to-bar
95 pound Clean and jerk, 18 reps
18 Toes-to-bar...
This is a timed workout. If you complete the round of 18, go on to 21. If you complete 21, go on to 24, etc.

Josh took his whack at 13.4 on Saturday and absolutely dominated the WOD with 63 Reps. I was so impressed. He looked fluid and in control the entire time, and I know that his score helped him move up in the rankings.
Before the WOD, intense and focused. Mid-WOD killing it!
Toes to Bar

Although I feel comfortable with toes-to bar, this WOD yet again providing me with something I had never tried before. The most I had ever cleaned and jerked was 75 pounds so I knew this would be a challenge. I honestly was unsure if I would even be able to get 1 Rep as a total score. So needless to say, I was nervous.

I took my stab at 13.4 on Sunday. Josh and I arrived early at the box, and he had me do an extensive warm up. I then did a few clean and jerks at 65, 75, and 85 pounds. I wanted to save the full 95 pound attempt for the WOD, but right before the clock started I decided to try it....and I COULDN'T clean the weight. That had me a little shaken up but I took a deep breath and got in position.

3.2.1. Go!!! The clock started and I gave it my all. The clean ended up being the challenge for me, but once I got it in the front rack position I got it overhead easily. I used the split jerk the entire time. I finished with 19 reps, and I could not be happier. I was so lucky to have people cheering me on, and their encouragement helped me greatly when I was struggling to clean the weight. Definitely, much happier with my performance this week!
Nervous but excited
95 Pounds Overhead
Did you complete 13.4?
Yeppers

How did you do?
I was so much happier with my attempt this week. I also have a new PR for Clean & Jerk!

Can you believe that the end of the Open is almost here? Tomorrow the final WOD of the Open will be posted and then Thursday will be my last attempt to improve my ranking. Like I have mentioned before, I am so thankful Josh and I decided to do it. We have met so many people, challenged ourselves at weights we didn't think were possible, and have had a blast doing it!

Have you had a positive open experience?
