Islamorada Vacation: Day 2

On day 2 of our vacation Josh and I woke up early and enjoyed coffee and fruit in our awesome suite. We then went straight to the water to catch some sun. Being so much closer to the equator, the sun was intense even at 10am, and it didn't take very long for me to get sunburned even though I applied sunscreen generously!
Beautiful Water
My handsome man!
Woo hoo! I'm on vacation!

Before lunch we decided to have a few cocktails and some shrimp as an appetizer. I love sea side service!

Sooo big and juicy :)

After some more sunbathing, Josh thought he heard someone yell "MANATEE".  A manatee is his favorite animal, and he has never seen one (there is a long childhood story about the time he almost saw one.) So anyway we went racing down the pier to see this majestic sea cow, but alas it was a false alarm. We did see a pelican though.
"Polly want a cracker?"

After the manatee let down, we decided it was time for a proper lunch. So we took some local's advice and drove our sweet ride over to "Ma's Fish Camp." It is well known for the conch fritters and key lime pie. All of the food was scrumptious, but the key lime pie was hands down the best I have ever had. I don't particularly love fruit desserts (I am a chocoholic), but this pie had a firm, ice box cold consistency that was out of this world. Plus the flavors were indescribable. Josh thought it was the best too (and he is a key lime pie expert)...definitely a must in Islamorada!

Conch Fritters...similar to hush puppies with conch in them (conch reminds me of shrimp).
Mahi Mahi Tacos
The Famous Key Lime Pie...definitely a must have!

After lunch we went back to the beach, kayaked, and then got ready for drinks on the bayside to watch the sunset.
Pirate Ship...hello Jack Sparrow!
Sunset...little camera does not do it justice.
We had dinner and then went back to our suite to hit the hay early. Fishing was scheduled the next morning so we had to catch some zzzzzzs.

Another perfect day!

To be continued...
