Cinco de Derby

Cinco de Mayo weekend started with Josh and I running to the grocery store to get some supplies. We were both STARVING and whipped up a dinner of bread, cheese, olive tapenade, wine, fettuccine and tortellini and Easter candy for dessert! It was all delicious. We then watched the movie "A Dangerous Method." I thought it was good, but I am glad that I waited to Redbox it instead of going to the theater. Kiera Knightley is amazing in it!

The next morning Josh went and played golf, and I went to Crossfit. This WOD was all weights, and it was EXHAUSTING. I was drenched in sweat when I finished not only because it was hard but because it was so humid. I am so glad that I went to the 8am workout.

After CF, I stopped by Josh's place to change and then went and picked up my friend Mary Kathryn for brunch. MK and I went to Camp Mystic together, and she is now a teacher here in DC.  We went to a place called Open City, and it was incredible. I had the Smoked Salmon Scramble and completely cleaned my plate. MK and I had a great time catching up (it had been awhile) and then we went over to her place so I could see her apartment. She lives in an amazing historical building in Glover Park. It looks like it should be in a movie from the 1930s and it is gorgeous. Her apartment was precious too, and she had it decorated impeccably. It was the perfect morning!
I forgot my camera that morning and I still have not invested in a camera phone...so this is a picture of us from another time we had brunch! Love you MK!

After checking out MK's place (which also has a breathtaking rooftop view) I went back to my place to clean up...both my apartment and myself. Josh got back at about that time as well. Our friend Alisa invited us over to her place to watch the Derby and have margaritas so we stopped by the grocery store and then made our way over to her place. Some more of our friends stopped by as well and we placed bets on which horse was going to take the win. I picked "Daddy Nose Best". None of us picked "I'll Have Another" so we all got our money back...haha oh well. We ate chips and queso and drank margaritas while visiting and watching the race!

Keith got a pinata for the occasion. So after the race we all took a whack at it!

During Keith's turn he knocked the croc's tail off. He also broke some of the loot that was inside...TEQUILA!!!
Way better than the pinatas from my past :)

By this time we decided we were pretty hungry, so Josh, Keith, Alisa, JBT, Emily and I made our way to our neighborhood Mexican restaurant La Plaza. When Alycyn and I first moved to DC we ate there almost every other day. Beth met us there, and we enjoyed some more margaritas while we waited. We also became best friend's with the owner's 8-year-old son. He put on a skateboarding show for us!
heeeeeeey!
Me and my new pal, Henry!

We devoured our food, took some tequila shots, and then all decided that we were too full to do anything else. So we said our goodbyes. It was an excellent Cinco de Derby!

The next morning Josh, JBT, and I decided to go play a round of golf. It was pretty overcast, but we had a great time and I can't wait to get out on the course again soon. JBT is a great golfer and so is Josh. With both of their help, I felt like I improved throughout the morning!
GENTLEBETH!

After golf, Josh and I went to Matchbox for brunch. I had my usual: a large simple salad and the mozzarella pizza. Josh had a gigantic burger. We decided to splurge (even though we had splurged all weekend haha) and have my favorite dessert in all of DC: The Gelato Cookie Sandwich!
Best Dessert in DC

It was just as good as I remembered, but we were miserably full after. We went over to my house and both took 2 1/2 hour naps. I was stuffed the rest of the day and even when we were watching our shows later in the evening I could not eat anything else! We went to bed nice and early because we were going to the 5:30am WOD the next morning.

Another successful weekend in our Nation's Capitol!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday and a restful and fun weekend!
